Read First
Electric Current

  • Circuit is a continuous path consisting of conducting wires and other resistances between the terminals.
  • Electric circuit is a continuous path made by conducting wires, devices such as resistances, capacitors etc. and voltage sources.
  • A continuous / closed path consisting of conducting wires and other resistances between the terminals of a battery along which an electric current flows, is called a circuit.
  • The connections can be in series or in parallel.
  • A circuit represented by a circuit diagram is as below in fig.

  • In above figure, the symbol A represents Ammeter which is always connected in series in the circuit.
  • Ammeter measures current.
  • The signs on the terminals should be noted.
  • The current enters ammeter from + or positive terminal.
  • The symbol V represents Voltmeter which is always connected in parallel in the circuit.
  • Voltmeter measures voltage.
  • Voltmeter is connected parallel to resistance R1 .
  • Here, cell, ammeter, R1 and R2 are connected in series.
  • Electrons flow from negative terminal of cell to positive terminal of cell and current flows in opposite direction to flow of electrons.

On the basis of your understanding of the above topic, answer the following questions
